Job Summary

Responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Ensures ground is prepped and trenches dug out for pipes. Aligns pipes and seals joints together with cement or glue.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Configure pipe routes.
  2. Align pipes in pipeline sections.
  3. Dig trenches with trenching tools.
  4. Slide pipe into trenches.
  5. Tell tractor driver where to move pipe in preparation for welding.
  6. Insert spaces in between pipes.
  7. Pull out defective or misaligned pipes.
  8. Correct alignments with sledgehammers.
  9. Inspect places where pipes are fitted together to ensure pipes are spaced out properly and according to specifications.
  10. Lay pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains.
  11. Grade trenches or culverts.
  12. Seal joints.
  13. Use glue or welding equipment to ensure pipes are tightly fitted.
  14. Ensure pipes are fitted and aligned using grade rods or transit levels.
  15. Cover pipes with dirt or other material.
  16. Drill holes into pipes for auxiliary lines.
  17. Perform continual maintenance on pipes and replace those needing repair.
  18. Utilize magnetic or radio indicators.
